SafeRun ("we," "our," or "us") is a mobile application designed to help women plan and complete safe walking and running routes. By using our app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information we collect
Account information
- Name and email address
- Profile photo (optional)
- Password (stored in encrypted form)
Activity & fitness data
- Target distance or duration you set before a run or walk
- Routes generated and completed
- Pace, distance, and time data
- Activity history and personal records
Device & technical data
- Device type and operating system
- App version and crash reports
- IP address and approximate region
3. How we use your information
We use your data to:
- Generate safe, personalised routes based on your target distance or time
- Track your activity and display your progress history
- Trigger safety alerts and notify your emergency contacts when needed
- Improve route quality and identify safer areas over time
- Send you activity summaries and optional push notifications
- Respond to your support requests
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
4. Location data & route tracking
Location is central to how SafeRun works. Here is how we handle it:
- During a session: We access your GPS location in real time to track your route, verify your safety, and match you to the path generated for you.
- Background location: With your permission, the app may continue tracking your location in the background while a session is active — this is used solely for live safety monitoring.
- Storage: Completed route data is stored to your account so you can review past activities. Raw GPS traces are retained for 12 months and then deleted.
- You can disable location access in your device settings at any time, though this will limit core app functionality.
5. Emergency contacts & safety features
SafeRun includes safety features that involve sharing your information with people you designate:
- Emergency contacts: You may add trusted contacts who can receive your live location and a safety alert if you activate the SOS feature or if a session ends unexpectedly.
- SOS alerts: When triggered, your current GPS coordinates and a link to your live location are sent to your designated emergency contacts via SMS or in-app notification.
- Consent: You are responsible for obtaining consent from any person you add as an emergency contact before adding them to the app.
We do not share your location with anyone other than your designated emergency contacts, and only when a safety event occurs or you explicitly choose to share.
6. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it in limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We use third-party providers for hosting, mapping (e.g. route generation APIs), push notifications, and crash analytics. These providers are contractually bound to handle your data securely and only for the purposes we specify.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
- Business transfer: If SafeRun is acquired or merges with another company, your data may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify you before this happens.
7. Data retention
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active.
- GPS and route data is retained for 12 months from the date of activity.
- When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
8. Your rights & choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information in your account settings.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Portability: Request an export of your activity data in a common format.
- Opt out of notifications: Manage push notification preferences in your device settings or within the app.

9. Children's privacy
SafeRun is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete the account promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you via the app or email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of SafeRun after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
